I recommend cutting a piece out completely, and making all the folds before gluing, even if you’re gluing it to itself. This is the time consuming part of the process, cutting, folding, and gluing the pieces together slowly to build the form. Remember the numbers on the pieces are the “EDGE ID”, so you want to align a number with it’s twin, as they share an edge. Use the computer model to help you find pieces around your starting piece, again you can select them on the 3-D model and it will highlight the 2-D equivalent. Some people recommend scoring (or lightly cutting the surface) of the folds, I haven’t tried that yet (but I will on the next one and let you know!) I just use the edge of the metal ruler and fold everything like a valley fold (toward me), then flip the ones that are supposed to be mountains. I recommend you cut out the entire piece, then fold it.

He has a few other instructables on how to get the most out of the pepakura program so read them all and while you’re on, feel free to explore for more ideas and tips! This instructable was made by krsiak, and is a great intro to paper craft so please go check it out and he has a couple related youtube videos as well here. This great picture of mountain and valley lines I took from an instructables article (What Is Pepakura And How To Start) that can be found here. Non-solid lines are fold lines, and the type of line indicates which direction that fold will be.ĭash Lines = “Mountain Fold” = This line will be the peak of the fold and the faces on either side will go away from you.ĭash Dot Lines = “Valley Fold” = This line will be the bottom of the fold and the faces on either side will come toward you. There are two types of non-solid lines as well, dashed lines as well as dash/dot lines.

I recommend placing the ruler OVER the design and cutting the outside, rather than putting the ruler outside the object and risk cutting into the shapes.Īll solid lines are to be cut all the way through.

You can see the borders I left around the objects in the pictures for the next step. This allows you to cut quickly with the scissors and will make your detailed cutting (along the lines) much easier without having to deal with all the excess.
